CCPL buys 338 copies of Dan Browns’ The Inferno for $28,730.
That is $85 a copy. Is this fiscally responsible spending when the list price for it is $29.95 on Amazon? Are they so focused on being #1 that they will do it at any price?
Yes, I realize they probably have specific companies they must purchase from…but these companies are only going to continue to charge ridiculous prices if you continue to buy them at that price. Librarians have commented before on CCPLs’ spending.
One librarians stated:
“..I purchase e-books for the library where I work and I don’t buy e-books with inflated prices, checkout limits, or any such shenanigans. Sure, I can’t offer the best sellers or most popular authors but I can provide books by self-publishers and smaller publishers who are friendly towards libraries. I’d rather spend my budget that way than send the wrong message that this sort of behavior is okay.”
CCPL can use a lesson in responsible spending. They are spending like drunken sailors with OUR money.
Cuyahoga County Public Library makes the news again for over-spending.This entry was posted in Uncategorized by admin
